The Lakshadweep Administration, on December 14, 2025, issued a notification appointing the date of publication in the Lakshadweep Gazette as the date on which the Lakshadweep Registration of Societies Regulation, 2025 shall come into force in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, in exercise of powers under Section 1(3) of the said Regulation.
The Lakshadweep Registration of Societies Regulation, 2025, promulgated by the President of India under Article 240 of the Constitution, consolidates and modernises the legal framework governing the registration, regulation, and administration of societies in Lakshadweep. The Regulation provides a comprehensive statutory basis for societies established for purposes such as charity, education, culture, arts, sports, science, public welfare, and other charitable or public objectives, and introduces updated definitions, governance structures, and regulatory oversight mechanisms.
With the coming into force of the Regulation, all societies in Lakshadweep shall be governed exclusively under this new legal framework, including provisions relating to registration, governance, filing of returns, recognition of office bearers, and regulation of State-aided societies. The notification marks a significant step towards uniformity, transparency, and strengthened regulatory control over societies operating within the Union Territory.
